About Me - Counselling Psychologist

I am a Counselling Psychologist registered in the category of Independent Practice with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPSCA). My practice is registered with the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF). I am also a member of the Psychological Association of South Africa (PSYSAA).
Prior to obtaining a Masters Degree, I was employed for a number of years within the corporate sector where I was involved in performance management, career development and coaching and mentoring initiatives. During this period, I also volunteered at the Alzheimer's Institute of South Africa where I provided psychoeducation, counselling and support for the families and caregivers of those impacted by Alzheimers disease. Thereafter, as part of my academic training programme, I provided psychological services at public schools, community centres and at a public hospital. I currently work in private practice.
In terms of my view of human difficulties, I acknowledge the impact of past challenges on current functioning. However, I also believe in the resiliency of the human spirit and its ability to overcome adversity. As such, in my practice, I work with clients to better understand their characteristic patterns of being and with the increased insight the client and I work together to facilitate further exploration and therapeutic growth. My long-term therapeutic approach incorporates Parts Work, Schema therapy and EMDR. My short-term therapeutic work is based on the principles of Solution-Focussed Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
My Qualifications:
- Master of Arts (MA) in Counselling Psychology (with distinction) (UJ)
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) with Honours in Psychology (UNISA)
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computer Science (UNISA)
Additional Training:
- Brain Working Recursive Therapy (BWRT)
- Schema Therapy
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)
